A New Restaurant With Nothing To Be SHEEPish About Because It Isn't BAAAAAAAAAd!

My family and I went to a new restaurant in the South End called Black Lamb and it is EXCELLENT (do you get all the jokes in the title of this post?!)! When we got there, the hostess was very nice. And they have a space to leave strollers, which many restaurants in the South End don't. Their high chair didn't work very well though. It was fabric and collapsible, which probably makes it easier to store. But it was so low, that if my sister sat in it, she couldn't reach food on the table or see us! But we just had her kneel on a chair, and that worked out fine. The servers were very nice and knowledgeable. The restaurant was fairly busy, given that it's new and that was when we went early on a Sunday, but which is probably a good sign! The space was nice too, but there were two big TVs in the bar area that you can see from almost every table in the restaurant. The TVs were distracting and that's not very good if you're trying to have a family dinner. But otherwise I liked the atmosphere.

We started with house made bread. I think that they called them Parker House Rolls, but they were actually more like biscuits with cheese. They came with butter on the side, but they were buttery enough for me. I liked the crispy cheese on top. And I liked that they came out really hot because you could tell that they were freshly made.

You can see the crispy cheese on top!

We also got marinated Castelvetrano olives and Eggs Mimosa. Castelvetrano are my favorite kind of olives. I like that they have a firm texture and taste buttery and these were very good. Eggs Mimosa is a French version of deviled eggs. I think that these had anchovy and black truffle in them and they were very good.

Even if you think that you don't like olives, you should try Castelvetrano because they're the best and very mild!

I loved the black truffle on the Eggs Mimosa, even though I usually prefer white!

Next we had raw bar. We had two kinds of East Coast oysters, and they were great. The oysters came with both a mignonette and a spicy green pepper sauce. The sauces came in squeeze bottles which made them easy to serve. I felt like a professional chef squeezing on my own mignonette! We also had shrimp cocktail, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. My favorite part of the raw bar though was a razor clam ceviche. The razor clams were chopped up, which made them easier to eat, and they were very citrusy and delicious. We also got scallops in a black truffle sauce that was amazing!

I thought that this platter looked very pretty.

After that I had poached salmon with fennel salad. I think that the salmon was poached in olive oil. Everybody loved my salmon, even my dad, and he usually doesn't like salmon unless it's raw! The fennel salad was also very good. It was light and refreshing.

The salmon came with a yogurt sauce that was a little bit sweet and outstanding!

My mom got mixed greens with cider vinaigrette and goat cheese. The goat cheese came on a thin piece of crispy toast that my sister really liked. The salad was very pretty, but the greens came as whole leaves, which made it a little bit hard to eat. I think that it is better when the lettuce comes already chopped up.

This salad was another one that had dill in it though (remember the one from Austin?), which we really like!

My dad got the lobster roll and he loved it. Usually his favorite is the lobster roll from B&G because he likes that it comes with bacon. But he said that this one might be even better! He said that the tenderness of the lobster meat is what made it stand out. The fries were also excellent. They were thin and soft and very flavorful.

We weren't planning on getting dessert, but my sister really wanted some and so my parents said okay. We shared key lime pie and a chocolate cake. I think that the key lime pie from Joe's Stone Crab is better, but the chocolate cake was excellent. It had lots of layers with chocolate mousse in between. I would have liked more frosting, but my mom and I always want more frosting!

ree
I liked that this crust was very crispy.

ree
The whipped cream that came with the chocolate cake was perfect!

There aren't very many restaurants where we like to eat in the South End, but I think that we'll be going back to Black Lamb a lot! We all really really liked it and I give it a great recommendation!!
