A TimeOut That Isn't a Punishment!

A new food hall opened in Boston called TimeOut Market. A food hall is a place where there are lots of different stands selling different kinds of food. I've been to a food hall before in New York, beneath the Plaza Hotel, and it was great. So I was very excited to find out that a food hall had opened in Boston. There are 15 stands selling food. Some of them come from known chefs in Boston, and some are new.

There are many long tables with lots of seats, so finding a place to eat is easy. The tables were very clean. This was good because sometimes places like this are too crowded and dirty. My mom said that she thought they did a really good job keeping everything nice and clean. A man who worked there came up to us and asked my mom if she'd like a highchair for my sister. And a bunch of times while we were eating, people came over to see if they could clear anything away for us. I thought that was very nice. They also had a band playing live music. My sister liked dancing to it.

My mom and sister and I first went and got sushi tacos at a place called Gogo Ya. I had never heard of sushi tacos before, but I was excited to try them.

We got the torched salmon teriyaki taco, with roasted garlic, teriyaki sauce, scallions, sesame and lemon zest. We also got the grilled maine lobster taco with tamari butter glaze, sea urchin sake sauce and lemon zest. The taco shell was made out of deep fried nori. I was surprised by that, but it definitely made the nori more like a taco shell. I liked the lobster taco better because it had more flavor. The salmon didn't taste like much, but my sister seemed to like it. I thought that sushi tacos were very creative!

The salmon taco is on the top of the picture and the lobster taco is at the bottom.

We also got miso soup and my dad thought this was the best thing that we ate at the whole market. It was one of my favorites too. I like the miso soup at Uni more though because it has more stuff in the broth.

I loved the seaweed and tofu in this soup!

My dad and brother got a salad and meatballs from Michael Schlow's Italian Kitchen.

My dad ordered the Baby Artichoke Salad, but we ended up getting the Grilled Asparagus Salad with tiny tomatoes, parmigiano and grilled bread by accident instead. We'd really wanted the artichoke salad because we love artichokes, but the asparagus salad was very very good. The asparagus was chopped small, so you got it with most bites. And there were peas in it too that tasted very fresh.

I like how they have special TimeOut Market dishes!

We also got Mimi's Famous Meatballs with whipped ricotta and spicy basil tomato sauce. One of my favorite nannies was named Mimi so these made me think of her (Hi Mimi, if you're reading this!). I thought that the meatballs were very spicy, but they were still my favorite thing that we ate. My sister thought that they were too spicy, but my brother liked that that the meat itself wasn't too hard or too crumbly soft. He thought that they were cooked just right. My dad liked them too, but thinks that the meatballs at Moody's are better because of the sauce.

I liked how these were served stacked like a pyramid.

My dad got a burger and fries from Craigie Burger.

ree

My dad thought that the burger was good, but not transcendent. When he told me that I learned that transcendent means exceptional! He thought that the fries were really good because they had togarashi on them, which is a Japanese seasoning. And he liked the special tangy ketchup that they served. I thought that the burger was very good.

We also got curry chicken gyoza from Ms. Clucks Deluxe Chicken and Dumplings. Gyoza are stuffed wonton wrappers. These were my brother's favorite. He loved them. He liked how the dough was chewy. I think that I like soup dumplings more.

ree

The last thing that we got was pizza from Monti Roman Pizzeria.

ree

The pizza didn't have cheese covering all of it, which my brother didn't like. My dad thought that the crust tasted very similar to the crust of the pizza that we make at home. We use Jim Lahey's recipe for No Knead Pizza Dough, which is easy and great. Maybe they use something similar! My sister loved this pizza and ate a lot of it.

I thought that TimeOut Market was great. It is near Fenway Park and would be a great place to go before a baseball game. I want to go back and try different things!
