Another Georgian Gem

Our last night on Sea Island, we ate at Colt & Alison, which is a steak house. I've actually eaten there before. A couple of years ago, we came on the night before Thanksgiving. It is another fancy restaurant, but not quite as fancy as the Georgian Room. The dining room is a little bit dark. The hostess and servers were very friendly. Our server was good at explaining what things were. And he complimented my brother, and sister and me on our restaurant manners. My mom and dad think that restaurant manners are very important, so they're always proud of us when we get compliments!

Before the meal, with our water, we were each offered lime, lemon or cucumber. I thought that was very nice. I chose lemon and thought that the water tasted very good with lemon in it. Then we started with a complimentary bruschetta hors d'oeuvre. Bruschetta is grilled bread with olive oil and garlic and different toppings. This version had chopped tomatoes. I thought it was a nice beginning to the meal.

Doesn't this look delicious and beautiful?

My mom and I started with the Asian Pear Salad, which was artisan greens, quinoa, pistachio and Meyer lemon vinaigrette. The quinoa was crispy and I liked that a lot. I also liked the dressing because it had a lot of flavor.

I don't usually like pears, but these were really good!

My dad and papa had Caesar salads made at the table and I got to help. I got to add in egg, anchovies and oil. The server used a fork to create nice paste and then we poured in oil. We put the greens in and mixed it all up and added croutons and then plated the salads. It was very fun!

My brother had Crab Bisque, with blue crab, corn, and brie croutons. He especially liked the crab and he loved it so much that he ordered another bowl. Our server said that he had never seen a kid do that before!

The balls in the middle are made of crab and my brother loved them!

For entrees, my mom and I both had Tripletail, which came with English pea dumpling, fiddlehead ferns, and onion broth. It was supposed to have ham, but we got it without. Tripletail is a warm water fish and it gets its name because it looks like it has three tails! I liked the fish and I especially liked the dumplings. They reminded me of gnocchi.

I loooooved the fiddlehead ferns!

My brother had Chicken Breast with Boursin potato butter, white acre peas, chanterelles and natural jus. He really liked the sauce and thought that the chicken had just the right amount of salt. He also really liked the potatoes and peas.

My dad and grandmother and papa all got steaks and they liked those too!

For dessert we shared a Lemon Blueberry Napoleon, which came with lemon curd, puff pastry, and blueberry Italian ice. A Napoleon is a classic French dessert, with layers of puff pastry and a cream filling. It can also be called a mille-feuille, with means "thousand sheets." There probably aren't a thousand sheets of puff pastry, but there are a lot!

I thought that the detail on the decorations of the dessert were very special.

We also got a Passion Fruit Souffle, which came with white chocolate sauce and vanilla bean ice cream. A souffle is a baked egg dessert, with beaten egg whites, so that it rises in the oven. Our server cut our souffle open at the table and poured the sauce and ice cream into the middle. I thought it was very good. I liked the napoleon but I liked the souffle even more. And my brother was really nice and gave me one of his bites and my mom knew that we were up to mischief and we were laughing so hard!

We had a great time on Sea Island, and especially eating at this restaurant. Colt & Alison is a great steakhouse. I highly highly recommend it - especially the souffle!

Harper,

I loved reading about your dining experience in Georgia! Everything looks so incredibly delicious. I'm so proud and happy to hear your manners were complimented by the servers - although, I am not at all surprised as you all know how to dine with grace! I hope you're travels are going well and that you continue to enjoy each meal as much as you did this one.
