I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a while! I've eaten at lots of good restaurants (Rochambeau post coming soon!), but have been really busy with school, and soccer, and dance, and gymnastics, and squash, and flag football!!!! But last weekend I had a very fun day. I went to the Ohio State game, with our friends the Grindleys. They are very nice and invite us every year. I even got official OSU pompoms and I got to meet the OSU cheerleaders!!

But after we flew back home, I got to do something else that was really special too. We went to dinner at a new restaurant called the Pollo Club in Waltham. Remember my Moody's post? It's right next to that and the same people run it and it is AMAZING!!!!!

ree
This is the Pollo Club logo. It is very funny because it's a woman playing polo, but she is on a chicken with a fork!!!

It is a small space, and it is really dark, but that makes it feel like a fun place to me. There is a TV, but they were playing silent videos of Planet Earth, which my mom loved, because she didn't mind us seeing that. Pollo Club is a fried chicken restaurant. If you're going to be a restaurant and focus on one thing, it probably needs to be really good or else people won't want to eat there. But fortunately Pollo Club is REALLY good at making chicken!

My mom got a cocktail called a Solitary Flower. It was made with Malaysian lime gin, honey, lemon, prosecco, and had butterfly pea flower ice cubes. I didn't try that because it had alcohol in it, but I loved that the ice cubes were blue!!!! She doesn't usually drink cocktails, but she said that it was very very good!

Aren't these ice cubes cool?!

We ordered lots of food and it all came out very quickly, which was great because we were very tired after flying home from Ohio. We started with a hummus plate, which comes with crispy pita bread, snap peas, sweet potato chips, evoo, and chili oil. This was very nice. I liked the sweet potato chips. The pita chips were much thicker than ones that you usually get and tasted freshly made. The hummus had less garlic than when we make it at home, but was very good.

We also had deviled eggs with whipped yolks, cured yolks, dijon mustard, and Espelette pepper. Espelette pepper is a special kind of chili pepper from France, but these weren't too spicy. They had a great texture.

I liked how the eggs looked on the blue plate.

For chicken, we got three different kinds. We got crispy tenders, a small white (which is half a breast and a wing), and a half rotisserie chicken, which is wood roasted. They all come with a buttermilk biscuit and a choice of two sauces. The sauce options are #7 Hot Sauce, Korean BBQ, Honey Butter, Honey Mustard, Chipotle Aioli and Hot AF. My favorites were the honey butter and chipotle aioli, but they were all good. All of the chicken was magnificent! I liked the tenders a lot. They were really crispy. A lot of fried chicken I feel like is just a little crispy, but this was pouffy and crispy! The chicken meat itself was really moist. We learned that they brine the chicken for days! I usually like dark meat more than white because it's less dry, but this white meat wasn't dry at all!

ree
These are the tenders.

ree
And this is the small white.

The rotisserie chicken was delicious. The meat was also very moist and it was really flavorful.

ree
The skin on the rotisserie chicken was crispy too.

The buttermilk biscuits were delicious. They were buttery and flaky and delightful! When I lived in my mom's belly, she says that she ate lots of buttermilk biscuits. Maybe that's why I like them so much!

My dad also got a chicken sandwich with pimento cheese, b&b pickles, honey chili sauce, and herbed coleslaw. He said that the bun was really good, and he liked the pimento cheese and honey chili sauce.

ree

We got a bunch of sides too. My dad ordered collard greens with smoked ham hocks, which I looooooooved. This was my favorite thing that we had. They were almost creamy and very tender and flavorful.

ree
The collard greens might not look very pretty, but trust me, they were awesome!

We also had minted snap peas with fresh mint, chardonnay vinaigrette, and red onion. I don't love sugar snap peas, but everyone else thought that they were good.

ree

My sister's favorite was the pickled veggies, especially the cauliflower. I loved the peppers and carrots and I liked how there were lots of different vegetables, instead of just cucumbers.

ree

The menu had broccoli slaw and goat cheese fritters with ginger sesame soy vinaigrette, and radicchio. My mom asked if we could just have the slaw without the fritters and our server was very accommodating. The slaw was another favorite! It had a strong sesame flavor, which was delicious.

ree

I was putting my head on the table once I was done and kind of half sleeping. My brother told my mom that I was asleep and so my mom started talking about dessert. I think she knew that would wake me right up and she was correct!!!!!

For dessert we had vanilla popsicles and s'mores in a jar. The popsicles were very cold. They had chocolate drizzled on them and were very creamy. I liked them because a lot of popsicles are really big, but these were a nice size, not too big and not too little.

ree

The s'mores jar was amazing. My mom said it was one of the best desserts she had ever had anyplace ever. The base was like a very thick chocolate mousse and the marshmallows on top were warm and melty and chewy. It was outstanding.

ree

The Pollo Club is definitely more of a restaurant for grown-ups, but I also think that it can be a great restaurant for families. It has very good food, but it also works for picky eaters, since pretty much any kid will eat chicken fingers and biscuits!

Everything looks and sounds delicious - I'm glad you had a blast in Ohio and got to enjoy a cozy dinner of comfort food with your family after. I work in Waltham really close to Moody st and am so excited to try this restaurant after reading your review. If it's half as good as Moody's next door, it has to be amazing. Thanks Harper!
